Chicken and Waffles Recipe

Ingredients

  • For the Chicken:
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce optional
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying vegetable or canola
  • For the Waffles:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter or vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional Toppings:
  • Maple syrup
  • Honey
  • Powdered sugar
  • Hot sauce

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken:
  • In a bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken pieces and marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight for maximum flavor.
  • In another bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  • Fry the Chicken:
  • Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  • Remove the chicken from the marinade and coat each piece in the flour mixture, pressing to ensure an even coating.
  • Fry the chicken in batches for 6-8 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on a wire rack or paper towels.
  • Make the Waffles:
  • Preheat your waffle maker according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the preheated waffle maker and cook until golden brown.
  • Assemble the Dish:
  • Place a piece of fried chicken on top of a waffle and drizzle with maple syrup or honey. Add powdered sugar or hot sauce for extra flavor.
