Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Hand or stand mixer
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Spatula
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

  • For the Cake:
  • 1 box yellow or banana cake mix plus ingredients listed on the box
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Pudding Layer:
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 box 3.4 oz instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 cup heavy cream whipped or use whipped topping
  • Toppings:
  • 3-4 ripe bananas sliced
  • 1 cup crushed vanilla wafers
  • Optional: caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  • Bake the Cake:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions, adding in the vanilla extract for extra flavor. Pour the batter into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Bake for the time specified on the box, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely.
  • Make the Pudding Layer:
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk until smooth and thickened. Gently fold in the whipped cream or whipped topping to create a light, fluffy mixture.
  • Assemble the Layers:
  • Once the cake has cooled, poke small holes all over the top using the back of a wooden spoon or a fork. Spread the pudding mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes for extra moisture and flavor. Arrange the banana slices on top of the pudding layer.
  • Add the Toppings:
  • Spread whipped topping over the bananas to cover the cake completely. Sprinkle the crushed vanilla wafers over the whipped topping for crunch and texture. Optional: Drizzle with caramel sauce for added flavor.
  • Chill and Serve:
  • Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to let the flavors meld together. Slice and serve chilled.
